Sensitive Organs and the Bones That Hold Them

Do the bones

that cling to my flesh

feel

they need to be peeled away

and cleansed?

Do the eyes

that give me keys

to the world

feel

they need to be

thrown away?

Do the arms

that show my affection,

give me the tools to create

feel

they need to be

removed?

Do the legs

that carry me through life,

over rocks and rubble,

feel

they need to be

taken off, shaken out, and reattached?

No?

Then why do I

feel

like my heart, that gives me life,

provides the food for my art,

needs to be torn from my chest

and restarted?

The heaviness of life weighs it down.
