One of My Oldest Friends

One of my oldest friends comforts me,

allows me to flourish,

unfold, create, design, explore,

worlds within words

Sometimes

it is like a river,

gushing and overflowing

Sometimes

it is a puddle,

shallow and hollow

Sometimes

it is a drought,

completely dry and misfortunate

One of my oldest friends

provides me avenues

for discovery and excavating elements of

my soul

Always

the passion pours into

wrinkles of my mind

Always

my love drowns the fear

and waters the soul

Always

my creativity swims

even if there’s been a dry spell

One of my oldest friends,

granting me the space,

the tools and the mind

I need to prosper in this relationship
