I came up with the idea as I was falling asleep. The light of my phone screen was just dimming, and this striking image of a face being THERE right in front of my face wouldn’t leave my head. Unlike the narrator, I opened my eyes and typed the idea into my phone.

This poem is inspired by the biphobia that a lot of bisexuals, including myself, face. Unfortunately, quite a bit of that biphobia can come from within the LGBTQ+ community itself, with people thinking that bisexuals are either lesbian or straight — but that’s not the case. Since it’s Pride Month, I wanted to explore something that feels important to me.
