How Lucky Am I?

How lucky am I,

To have been the witness of so many sunsets,

To have been allowed to ponder

over the beauty of the setting sun,

How lucky am I,

To know that with the end of each day,

Each day, with all its failings, its regrets and what-ifs,

With the end of each day

comes the chance to start afresh,

How lucky am I,

To be able to rest,

Renew myself with the night

and all her stars,

To have my scars lit up by the moonlight’s glow,

How lucky am I,

To wake up as the world sleeps,

awaiting the first crack of dawn,

To ask for forgiveness

To breathe in the morning dew,

and as the sun lifts her head

above the horizon once more,

To know that I, too,

can turn my face towards God, again

And again,

And again.

How lucky am I?
